January 2010 News

There are some very hardy shooters out there!  The January 2010 match was interesting, to say the least.  Setting up the day before, it was a sea of mud in many places and reasonably warm [40s?].  We restricted some of the planned movement as a result, and put two quick classifiers in one bay.  Match day it was 18 degrees when I arrived and warmed “all the way” into the 20s.  It was sunny and no wind, which made it a lot more bearable.  The good news was – no mud… just a lot of really uneven ground and mysterious footprints from the previous day.

In spite of the temperatures, we had 33 shooters including several first time IPSC shooters come out.  Anyone willing to start in those conditions must be serious!  All things considered, it really wasn’t too bad and we had a good time.  One of the “Sand Witches” came to serve a hot lunch to those who so desired, and we had a lot of compliments on that nice break.  The range was restored and everyone gone by about 3PM.

The January ICORE match was different – not as cold, but it was grey and drizzly.  3 Open shooters turned out anyway.

The match results are as follows:

  1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place
IPSC
Limited Doug Bowdler Lance Jensen Mike Cyrwus
  Limited-10 --- --- ---
Open James Broom Kelly Raglin Heath Vincent
Production Robert Daugherty Chris Anderson Shannon Conley
  Revolver Roger Davis --- ---
Single Stack Matt Johnson Phillip Zacker Dennis Gilleland

ICORE
Open Roger Davis John Gober Chris Comer

Some Important News:

We will be holding a USPSA Range Office seminar on February 27th & 28th.  For details, check out our website – http://ipsc.okcgunclub.org/ro_seminar2010.html.  I’ll need applications in as soon as possible.  About the first week of February I’ll be contacting USPSA with a final attendance, so they can send seminar materials.  Get them in as early as possible.  If you have any questions about it, email me at jbent@cox.net.

There will be a 3-Gun match on January 30th.  Regular 3-Gun matches are planned for every other month on the 3rd Sunday starting in March.  Always check the website for updates, especially as we get these matches going on a regular basis.

The March and April ICORE matches are cancelled.

We’re still working on establishing regular Steel Challenge matches.  It looks like that won’t happen until May.

You may also soon notice some construction taking place on the far north end of the bays.  In collaboration with the Cowboy division we are adding 3 new pistol bays and perhaps even a 300 yard rifle range.  With the added facilities we may be able to reschedule some of our monthly matches to hold more on Saturday.  Any decisions will be posted well in advance.

Thanks!
