November News Update

48 shooters turned out for the November pistol match.  We shot six stages, with lots of our toys.  Defying the forecast, the sun came out and it was great shooting weather.  After the match, we did a drawing for two lucky winners, each receiving $20 for Thanksgiving.  Jerry Quisenberry and Doug Bowdler won those.  With everyone’s help the range was restored, awards given, and the range deserted by a little after 3 [okay, I was there a little longer].

For the last 4 years, the IPSC Division has made the December pistol match a charity fundraiser in support of the "Coats for Kids" Campaign.  All the proceeds from the match -- including some generous cash donations beyond the match fee -- went to the cause.  Each year we have held a match with no classifier, and also included a man-on-man shoot-off as a side match.  The Coats for Kids Campaign was championed by Mike McCarville on KTOK News Radio and each year we would present him with a check on behalf of the Oklahoma City Gun Club.  The program is run through the public schools, making sure that every child that needs a warm coat in the winter time got one.  There is no overhead associated with the program; I seem to recall that Mike said the average cost of a coat was about $26.  Looking through our old newsletters, in 2002 we raised $600; 2003 we raised $700; 2004 we raised $1000; 2005 we raised $1270.  That's something all of you who participated can be very proud of!

This year, we're planning to do it again.  Mike McCarville retired this year, but the program is still alive and well.  We plan to make our December 2nd match the fundraiser event again this year.  We have not finalized the plans yet, but I would expect that we'll have 4 stages plus a man-on-man shoot-off [maybe even 2 shoot-offs, one with handgun, and one with shotgun].  We always have a good time with the event, and it's all for a good cause.  Details will be posted as we get them.

**IMPORTANT**

The 3-Gun & ICORE matches for November & December are cancelled due to the holidays; we plan to resume in January.

The IPSC Pistol match is still being held on December 2ndThat will be the fundraiser event mentioned above.

Some new info:  I have recently [finally] given the Oklahoma Section webpage a facelift. Check out http://www.bentworks.com/oksection. I'm still adjusting it and fiddling with the banner, but it's 'live'. Reading this, you'll also notice that the IPSC website has received a facelift, too. Look around and send me any feedback you might have.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Be Safe, have Fun!
